Eco-efficient management of water consumption
From the 90's, and more markedly after the Rio-92 Conference, the concept of eco-efficiency has spread in Brazil and worldwide. The challenge is to combine economic and environmental performance to reduce negative impacts of the production process. The innovations include, in addition to issues directly linked to production, human resources and materials, ongoing improvements in the management of the use of natural resources like water, for example. As part of this effort, NOVUS has created a solution that allows studying the behavior of water.
The system uses two NOVUS products: FieldLogger 512K and DigiRail-4C. Pulse output signals from the water flow sensors are fed directly into DigiRail-4C. The DigiRails count the pulses and convert into desired engineering units (liters/gallons per hour etc.). The resulting information is stored by FieldLogger at regular intervals each hour allowing for data collection and analysis of the level of consumption with focus on optimization.
Whenever there is any sudden change in the pattern, the system sends alert messages via email. This allows one to quickly identify leaks, accidents or vandalism. With this information, managers can take quick action thus reducing losses and costs.
This application has widespread use by organizations interested in keeping production processes of goods and services attuned to the highest standards of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
