Using the FieldLogger Auxiliary RS485 Port

The FieldLogger has, underneath its HMI (human-machine interface), a DB9 connector with a slave RS485/Modbus interface. This interface, originally designed to communicate data only with the FieldLogger HMI, has become a generic RS485/Modbus interface from firmware version 1.20. This interface is always slave, unlike the main interface that can be configured as master or slave.

Historian with SuperView

Flexible, functional and user-friendly, the SuperView is a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system dedicated to monitoring local or geographically distributed processes. The simplicity of its configuration helps in the process of constructing synoptic graphs that represent the real environment of the supervised process.

Data cache memory system

Each application has its particularities in terms of its requirements. Several applications require that records do not have gaps in data histories. To meet this requirement NOVUS has developed a system to avoid the problems caused by communication failures in different physical media: a cache memory system for data. This memory buffer serves to temporarily register the selected channels for publication that have not yet been sent to NOVUS Cloud, allowing all data to be published later, when communication is restored.

Timing in Process Controllers

Many industrial processes have stages in which the timing of supervision and control is critical. These are stages that must begin at specific times, or which must last for predetermined intervals of time or that must end in certain particular moments that, without the help of electronics, would be practically impossible to perform.

Modbus Network Timing

The configuration of the Modbus-RTU networks involves several configuration parameters related to the "time": timeout, response timeout, scan range, etc. Understanding these timing and their relationship between them allows to configure more robust networks and to understand some of the effects that arise when a communication problem occurs.

True-RMS Measurement: what it is and why it matters

In an alternating voltage signal, the polarity of the voltage is cyclically alternated. In the same way, the direction of an AC (alternating current) current alternates cyclically. Although there are several ways of measuring the magnitude of the alternating signals, the most common and most useful is the RMS (Root Mean Square) measurement.

Data Logging - How many acquisitions fit into memory

A frequently asked question from the users of our data loggers refers to the number of records or data that can be stored in the device´s memory. Another common related question is how to know how long it takes to record a certain amount of data. Although the approximate amount of data is easy to estimate, some characteristics must be taken into account to calculate the exact value.

NFC technology applied to thermolabile products

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a wireless technology that enables the exchange of information securely between compatible devices that are close to each other. This technology allows that, if the devices are close enough, the communication is established automatically without the need for additional settings. These devices can be smartphones, tablets, smart cards, and any other device equipped with an NFC interface.
